How does Lawyer Exchange process payments?
Lawyer Exchange's payments are powered through Braintree Payments' Marketplace platform. We have integrated their services into our system to assure secure, timely payments for our Project Lawyers.

Why does Lawyer Exchange/Braintree require personal information to process payments?
Braintree requires your personal information for the purpose of identity verification/fraud prevention. This information is encrypted into our database, so while you are able to edit it on Lawyer Exchange, we are unable to access it. How do I get paid on Lawyer Exchange?

Lawyer Exchange gives you two options to receive your payment: directly to your bank account or through Venmo. You can read more about these options below.


Why do I need to get verified when I submit a proposal?

This early verification process allows you to get paid faster when the project work is completed! It also provides extra security for the Hiring Lawyers so they can be ensured that their proposals are all from verified Project Lawyers.


How long does it take to get paid?

You'll receive an email confirmation from Lawyer Exchange when the Hiring Lawyer has made a payment. You should see the payment in your Venmo or bank account within 1-3 business days of this email. If you do not see your payment after 3 business days, please contact support@lawyerexchange.com, and we will work to resolve the issue.


How do I change my payout method?

You can change your payout method in your Lawyer Exchange settings.


Getting paid directly to your bank account

How do I set my bank account up as my payout method?

To receive payments directly to your bank account, simply provide the routing and account number for your preferred bank account in your Lawyer Exchange settings. 


How will Lawyer Exchange payments appear in my bank account?

Your payments will be titled "External Deposit LAWYER EXCHANGE - FUNDING".


Getting paid through Venmo

How do I set Venmo up as my payout method?

To receive payments through Venmo, you'll need to connect your Lawyer Exchange account to Venmo by using the same email address for each account and by selecting this option in your Lawyer Exchange settings.

    If you don't have a Venmo account, you will be prompted to create one.

    If you already have a Venmo account, you will simply connect it through our system. You'll need to make sure your email address on Lawyer Exchange matches the one on your Venmo account. Contact us if you need to change your email address.


Is Venmo secure?

We have chosen Venmo as a payment option for Lawyer Exchange because it is a fast, secure way to receive payments. You can learn more about Venmo and its security features here: https://venmo.com/about/security/


How do I get set up with Venmo?

When you submit your first proposal, you'll be automatically prompted to connect to Venmo. To do so, you'll need to provide your date of birth, social security number, and street address.


What if I already have a Venmo account?

If you already have a Venmo account, you'll just need to make sure the email address you use for Venmo matches the one on your Lawyer Exchange account. If it does not match, just send us an email at support@lawyerexchange.com, providing the email address on your Venmo account. We will change your email address and follow up with next steps. 


How will Lawyer Exchange payments appear in my Venmo account?

Your payments will come from Lawyer Exchange and will be titled "Payment (ID number)".
